Children's homeTrnová
Children's home is located in a village called Trnová near Plzeň.
Its history already started in 1951 when the building had been finished.
The celebratory opening took place 5th July 1951. One part of the
building served as a kindergarten for the village children and another
part was used as the all-week nursery. Gradually the nursery was
loosing its purpose since the children used to stay invariably longer
period. The circumstances led to the fact that the nursery changed
into the children's home. The children's home with the kindergarten
was run here until 1961, when in the village a new kindergarten
was opened. In 1961 the institution obtained a unified status Children's
home Trnová and was taken under the administration of District Health
Authority in Plzeň – North and it was designated for 1 to 3 year
old children.
A very important moment came 1st January 1991 when the children's
home became an independent legal entity. Its promoter was the District
Authorities Plzeň – North and it was designated for 1 to 6 year
old children. This was a big chance for this home to gain love and
care to fulfil its function. So the period of our independence started.
Home was renovated and newly furnished while working as usual. We
managed to accomplish a total reconstruction within our financial
possibilities and also thanks to the financial aid of our sponsors.
1st January 2002 the children's home again changed its promoter.
It became one of the nongovernmental health institutions, which
promoter is the District Authorities of Plzeň. Children’s home Trnová
is an allowance organization registered in the business register
of the District Court in Plzeň. The allowance organization was established
in order to secure health care. Children’s home gives health care,
hospital treatment and educational nurture to children with nobody
to take care of them or children with no possibility of secured
care within their own family. It also secures alternate custody,
all for 1 to 6 year old children. The capacity is 35 beds.
The target group comprises of children with different level and
class of danger. Most of the children come from the socially dangerous
backgrounds. Others are accepted for the health reasons – mental
or physical handicap and retarded children. The children are placed
into the children’s home on the basis of a judicial decision or
on the basis of parents´ request after a consultation with a social
worker from the Social Legal Protection Authority for Children.
In the most cases we meet with socially abandoned children who have
both or at least one of their parents but they can’t, don’t want
or don’t know how to take care of their child.
Children’s home secures complex special health care, prevention,
rehabilitation and also educational nurture and socially legal protection.
A paediatrist provides a regular paediatric care. Other special
treatments are provided consultatively when necessary. An expert
examination by a neurologist, psychiatrist, orthopaedist, dentist
etc. is provided this way. An experienced clinical psychologist
supervises the children. A special pedagogue comes and elaborates
individual plans for retarded children. Their educational nurture
derives from those individual plans. Rehabilitation and logopaedics
are an integral part of the daily care. Nurses and foster mothers
take care of the children around the clock. Pre-school children
attend a local kindergarten in the village Trnová and also its special
class. Here the children are integrated among the children from
normally running families and obtaining new experiences from them.
The effort of the workers is to shorten the stay of the children
as much as possible and return them to their own or to foster families.
Those children have, like other children, their right for love,
security, nurture, education, and also for health and social care
and hope on which depends their future development. In their case
the hope’s name is „a foster family“. The foster care is one of
the more pleasant activities of the institution. Children’s home
collaborates with the advisory board of the District Authorities
of the Plzeň when searching for suitable foster patents.
